Compassionate counselling and support that offers hope after loss

We understand that grief can feel overwhelming and isolating. Our bereavement counselling provides a safe, confidential space where you or your loved ones can begin to process feelings of loss and work towards living with grief. Our highly qualified counsellors specialise in supporting individuals and families through profound and prolonged grief, tailoring every session to meet unique needs.

Grief looks different for everyone and there is no “right” way to experience it. Whether you are struggling with the death of a child, parent, sibling or another loved one, our counselling services are here to help you navigate the emotional complexities of bereavement. Our experienced counsellors are skilled in offering compassionate support for a wide range of grief experiences, including those that feel especially prolonged or difficult to cope with.

Why choose counselling?

Grief can have a profound impact on emotional, physical and mental well-being. Talking to a trained professional offers an opportunity to release bottled-up emotions, explore the challenges of loss and discover coping strategies that work for you. Many people find it hard to talk openly to family or friends, especially when others are grieving too. Counselling provides a space to share thoughts and feelings without judgment, helping you feel understood and supported.

Our counselling services are particularly helpful for those experiencing complex grief, where feelings of sadness and loss persist for an extended period or interfere with daily life. It is not a sign of weakness to seek support – it is a step of courage and strength to prioritise your own well-being and healing journey.

What to expect from counselling

Your first session is an opportunity to meet your counsellor, discuss your needs and explore how we can best support you. Each session takes place in a calm and welcoming environment where you can express yourself at your own pace – whether through talking, creative expression or quiet reflection.

Together with your counsellor, you will decide on the number of sessions that feel most appropriate for your journey. While grief has no set timeline, our counselling is structured to provide consistent support, helping you navigate this challenging time in a way that suits you best.

Counselling at Edward’s Trust is a space where you can begin to process your emotions and develop coping strategies with the support of a trained professional. Many people find comfort in speaking with someone outside their personal circle – someone who listens without judgment and provides guidance to help them move forward.

How to refer someone for counselling

Enquiries can be made by family members, professionals or the individual seeking support. Our team will guide you through the referral process, ensuring we understand the specific needs of the person seeking help.

Our services are open to parents, children and young people who have experienced the death of someone with a significant attachment, such as a parent, sibling, grandparent or close friend. Referrals are carefully assessed to ensure we are the right service to provide the necessary support. If appropriate, we can also guide individuals to other resources or agencies if we believe their needs are better met elsewhere.

We know the early days of grief can feel especially daunting. That’s why our team is here to offer advice and support during those initial steps, ensuring the process is as easy and stress-free as possible.
