Our volunteers are amazing!

This National Volunteers Week we want to say a huge THANK YOU to our wonderful volunteers!

This week is National Volunteers week and we want to start off the thank you’s by highlighting all the wonderful work our amazing team of volunteers do. Volunteers week is a chance to celebrate and say thank you for the fantastic contribution volunteers make. As well as helping others, volunteering has been shown to improve volunteers wellbeing too. It is human nature to feel good after helping someone out. Volunteering can also help you gain valuable new skills and experiences and boost your confidence.

Lucy Goodway (Engagement Coordinator at ET) joined the Trust in 2016. One of her first missions was to increase and engage our number of active volunteers at ET. “We had some wonderful core volunteers (David, Sarah, Richard, Cynthia, Sara & Pete) when I first started my role at ET, they were truly wonderful in all that they did but it was clear to see they were also ‘stretched’ in all their volunteering duties. They needed more support and some new members!”

Lucy decided to promote and revitalise our ‘FOET’ (Friends of Edward’s Trust) group as a way to get more people involved, and before we knew it, the group grew to a massive 37. Too many to fit in the ET building these days! Each and every one of them are wonderful in all that they do. They have learnt from our experts; ‘the original 6’ as part of their journey, and they all have different responsibilities, whether it be writing donation request letters, creating raffle prizes, taking lead on bucket collections, hosting and managing events, raising awareness of our work, delivering presentations, running events in memory of some very special people or general day to day work at our office, they all work their magic for the needs of the Trust. We now see ourselves as the ‘FOET family’ who meet up every other month to review all their hard as well as look at upcoming opportunities. This year alone there has been 71 (‘in aid of’) events carried out for ET! This could not be possible without the support of this amazing group. They go above and beyond their busy lives of work, family, grandchildren, hobbies and pets and donate as much time as they can to support our cause. In 2018, 4,000+ hours of volunteering duties were carried out. So far this year they have totted up another 2,046 hours (and we’re only half way through 2019!)

To all our ET Volunteers, Supporters & Fundraisers… We salute you! ET could not survive without your dedication, passion and hard work! From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU xxx
