A message from our CEO

bereavement services for parents, children and families in the west midlands

I wanted to take a moment to share some personal news and, more importantly, to talk about what an exciting time this is for our organisation.

After three incredibly meaningful years as CEO, I’ve made the decision to step down later this year, following a planned handover period and a thorough recruitment process. This is very much a positive, proactive choice – not a leaving of Edward’s Trust, but a leaning into the next chapter of my own life.

Edward’s Trust has been such a huge part of my world for over 13 years. I care deeply about this organisation, our team, and the families we support. It has been a real privilege to lead a charity that does such vital, compassionate work for bereaved parents, children and young people across the West Midlands.

On a personal level, I’m at a point where I want to create more space for my health and my family. I live with a chronic health condition, and the Board has been incredibly supportive and flexible around that. I’m so grateful for the understanding, trust and care they’ve shown me throughout my time here. That support has enabled me to lead well, and it’s one of the many reasons Edward’s Trust is such a special place to work.

I’m really proud of what we’ve achieved together. We’ve navigated some enormous transitions, from moving into our new building, to evolving our team structure, strengthening our governance, and setting a clear strategic direction for our future. None of that has been easy, but it has been important, and it’s put Edward’s Trust in a really strong position.

I’ve also been working closely with our Interim Head of Fundraising, Amber Scales, to strengthen our fundraising team, support their development, and diversify our income strategy. This work is so important for our long-term sustainability, and I’m incredibly proud of the foundations we’re laying for the future.

More recently, we’ve begun recruiting new trustees, bringing in fresh energy, skills and perspectives to help guide the charity forward. All of this really points towards a new phase for Edward’s Trust – one that’s about growth, sustainability and deepening our impact.

We’ll soon be recruiting for a new CEO. We are looking for someone with energy, vision, and a real passion for our mission. We’re particularly keen to find someone local to the Birmingham area, who can be present in the organisation, build strong relationships, and help us make Edward’s kite fly even higher.

This is a rare opportunity to lead a charity that is values-driven, people-centred and ambitious about what it can achieve. The foundations are strong, the team is incredible and the potential is huge.

For me, this feels like the right moment to hand over the reins and I intend to do so with care and pride. I’ll be here throughout the transition, fully committed to supporting the organisation and our new CEO to ensure a smooth and thoughtful handover.

Edward’s Trust will always have a very special place in my heart. I’m excited for what comes next, both for me and, most importantly, for this wonderful organisation.

Thank you for being part of our journey, and I can’t wait to see where the next chapter takes Edward’s Trust.
