Goodbye from our counsellor Sue Dale

bereavement services for parents, children and families in the west midlands

Hi Everyone,

I’m Sue Dale, a Senior Children/Young Persons Bereavement Counsellor for Edwards Trust, and I will be retiring soon after 26 years of service for Edward’s Trust.

I would like to reach out and say thank you to all the families that have been a huge part of my working life both at Edward House and Edward’s Trust.

I began my journey with Edward’s Trust in 1999, I was lucky enough to start as a Duty Manager at Edward House, a 33 bedded house which accommodated and supported families whose children attended Birmingham Children’s Hospital and needed a place to stay to be near to their very sick child.

Each day to be amongst such courage and fortitude in difficult and emotional circumstances and to be alongside those families was such a humbling experience and I will never forget each and every family. You all hold a special place in my heart.

During this time, I visited ‘Sunrise’, the bereavement centre which was part of Edward’s Trust. I was moved by the work of Sunrise, and I embarked on training to become a qualified counsellor.

In 2005 I moved over to Sunrise to start my counselling journey. It has been a privilege to be alongside children & young people, to support them in the saddest moments in their lives and help them to understand their grief and help rebuild their lives. Our times together have often been emotional, but our counselling room has also been filled with lots of fun and laughter.

I have been in company of wonderful and exceptional young people full of character and resilience in the face of such sadness. I retire now with a ‘heavy heart’, but my life has been enriched beyond measure by knowing you all and it has been an honour to support you.

Thank you
