The Kite Challenge

Fun and simple challenges that make a lasting difference

bereavement services for parents, children and families in the west midlands

Small challenges, big impact

The Kite Challenge is an Edward’s Trust fundraising campaign especially designed for Schools and Community Groups. Children and young people can participate in the Kite Challenge to help bereaved families across the West Midlands, whilst also helping themselves, their family, friends and local community!

At Edward’s Trust, all our services are delivered at no cost to the service user. However, we do not get any central government funding. Therefore, fundraising from our local community with projects such as The Kite Challenge is vital to allow Edward’s Trust to continue supporting bereaved parents, children and young people in the West Midlands.

The Kite Challenge is designed not only as a tool to fundraise for Edward’s Trust, but also to help children and young people be a positive part of their community, make a difference to those around them and themselves, and feel proud to be ‘flying the kite’ for local family bereavement charity Edward’s Trust.

How does it work?

Each participating child or young person receives a booklet with a series of around 40 simple altruistic challenges; they then have a set time period to complete as many as they can and get sponsored for each challenge. If family, relatives and friends could kindly support with a 50p donation for every challenge they complete, you will be amazed at the difference you can make!

Some of the challenges include:

  • Smile at the people you pass in the street
  • Change the toilet roll when its empty
  • Tidy and dust your bedroom
  • Chat to a neighbour you know who may be lonely
  • And many more!

The booklet is easily personalised, and the challenges can be adapted to meet the needs of the school or organisation.

It is a really simple way to provide independence, responsibility and resilience for your child/young person as they work their way through the challenges. If family, relatives and friends could kindly support with a donation (e.g. 50p) for every challenge they complete, you will be amazed at the difference you can make.

You could opt to award prizes at the end of the challenge, for excellent contribution and the highest amount of money raised within your School or Community Group.

If you would like to sign up, let us know and we will send you our Kite Challenge booklet, that lists all the activities/challenges the child/young person can complete for sponsorship. We are happy to help you to personalise the booklet with your School or Community Group’s logo. Then feel free to print and hand out/send digitally to students.

"To be able to fundraise seems a natural response for me to try & give a little something back to show my appreciation. By being able to donate time & money to Edward's Trust makes me feel happy knowing that it will contribute towards other families receiving the gift of support when they most need it, just like we have had."
