This year marks the 22nd year of Baby Loss Awareness Week in the UK.  This is a national event dedicated acknowledging and supporting those who have experienced the heart-wrenching loss of a child.  The event provides everyone in the baby loss community and beyond to come together to remember and commemorate their much-loved and missed babies.

The week also provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the impact of pregnancy and baby loss; the importance that bereavement support plays in the ongoing bereavement journey; and of the vital work that is needed to improve pregnancy outcomes and to save babies’ lives.

Parents and families tell us how important it is that they each find a way to remember their baby in a way that suits them.  It is also important to remember there is no right or wrong way and it can shift and change over the years.

Edward’s Trust has been providing qualified and experienced support and care to individuals and families who have been bereaved by a baby loss for 35 years and has been a beacon of hope for countless parents and families who have experienced the devastating loss of a child.  We know that the Trust plays a crucial role in providing solace and guidance to those in their darkest moments.  The charity recognises that Baby Loss Awareness Week is an important annual event that seeks to break the silence surrounding baby loss.  Edward’s Trust dedicates itself to creating more compassion and understanding for grieving parents, ensuring they find the support they need and the recognition that their children’s memories live on.

Baby Loss Awareness Week culminates with the global “Wave of Light” on 15th October, which is also a globally recognised event.

Edward’s Trust invites you to join other families across the world by lighting a candle at 7pm local time and leaving it burning for at least one hour to remember all babies that have died too soon.

To join the virtual Wave of Light, take a photo of your candle and post it to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using #WaveOfLight at 7pm local time.

Wherever you do this, you will be joining a global ‘Wave of Light’ in memory of all the babies who lit up our lives for such a short time.
